Tuscaloosa's River Market celebrates three years as Alabama's top farmers market

The Tuscaloosa River Market is celebrating a remarkable achievement, having been named the number one farmer's market in Alabama for three consecutive years. Operations Manager Kaye shared this exciting news during the Tuscaloosa Pre-Council Briefing on April 22, 2025, highlighting the market's unique position and community support.

Kaye emphasized the market's role as an economic engine for the city, with 68 vendor spots and a vibrant mix of local produce and goods. The market not only supports local farmers but also contributes to the city's tax revenue, as many vendors hold business licenses. The River Market is certified under the "Sweet Grown Alabama" program, ensuring that all produce comes from within 25 miles of the state line.

In addition to its regular offerings, the market is expanding its reach with new Tuesday evening markets starting in June, allowing more vendors to participate and meet community demand. Kaye also announced a partnership with Auburn University to double SNAP EBT benefits for fresh fruits and vegetables, making healthy food more accessible.
