Silver Creek Elementary welcomes new kindergarten families and celebrates student achievements

The Silver Creek School Corporation Board Meeting held on April 22, 2025, highlighted several key initiatives and events aimed at enhancing the educational experience for students and families. The meeting began with an enthusiastic welcome to new kindergarten families, who are invited to attend "Camp K" this Thursday. This event will provide families with an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the school environment and ask questions as their children prepare for the transition to kindergarten.

A significant achievement was announced regarding the recent Read-a-thon fundraiser, which raised nearly $16,000, thanks to the support of families and the efforts of the Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO). The funds will contribute to various school programs and activities.

The meeting also celebrated the success of the recent book fair and family night, which featured a dance party for first graders and drew a large turnout. Special recognition was given to Lauren McDaniel, who organized her tenth book fair, marking her significant contributions to the school community.

In addition to these events, the meeting recognized students for their dependability awards, with winners announced from both kindergarten and first grade. The school also reported on the launch of an after-school tutoring program aimed at improving reading skills, as well as ongoing ILEARN testing for third to fifth graders, which is a critical component of student assessment.

Silver Creek Middle School reported on its own testing season and celebrated achievements in the arts, including a gold rating for the sixth-grade choir at a recent competition. The middle school is also preparing for upcoming field trips and has encouraged parents to complete online registrations.

At the high school level, the board acknowledged the accomplishments of student-athletes in various sports, including basketball and track, and highlighted the success of the softball team in recent tournaments.

The meeting concluded with a reminder of the importance of community support in funding school projects and enhancing student experiences. The board expressed gratitude for the ongoing involvement of families and the PTO in making these initiatives possible.
