Lakeville Conservation Commission approves greenhouse and shed near wetlands

Lakeville's Conservation Commission made significant strides in environmental management during their meeting on April 22, 2025, focusing on local projects that aim to enhance community sustainability and protect natural resources.

One of the key discussions involved the approval of a small greenhouse and storage shed at a residential property. The greenhouse, designed to be freestanding and organic, will be constructed on cinder blocks with gravel underneath. The property owner confirmed that the greenhouse will be situated 12 feet from the property line and 38 feet from the nearest wetlands, adhering to local regulations. The Commission emphasized the importance of sedimentation control measures to prevent soil erosion into nearby streams and wetlands, recommending the installation of a siltation barrier during construction.

In another matter, the Commission addressed tree removal at 14 Sandy Point Road. Although the trees had already been cut down prior to the meeting, the Commission confirmed that proper sedimentation controls were in place. The removal was deemed compliant with environmental regulations, and a negative determination was issued, allowing the project to proceed without further permits.
