Mason City students excel at Iowa FCCLA and quiz bowl competitions

The Marshalltown Community School District (CSD) showcased impressive student achievements during a recent meeting, highlighting the talents of its students in various competitions. Notably, three students represented the district at the Iowa FCCLA state leadership conference in Cedar Rapids, where Helen Schur earned a silver medal in career investigation, and Adrian Masten took home a gold medal in job interview skills.

The meeting also celebrated the success of the district's quiz bowl team, which recently competed in the state competition, marking the fifteenth anniversary of the quiz bowl league in Iowa. Jager Purchase received All State honors for his outstanding performance, contributing significantly to the team's success. His efforts were pivotal in securing a second-place finish, a remarkable improvement from last year's eighth place. Teammate Ella, who was unable to attend the meeting, also received praise for her knowledge in biology and literature.

The quiz bowl competition was described as a dynamic event, with teams trading places throughout the rounds. The team faced challenges with varying question packets but ultimately performed well, demonstrating resilience and teamwork. The district looks forward to building on this year's achievements as they prepare for future competitions.
