The Berkeley County School District Board Meeting on April 22, 2025, highlighted significant achievements among local students and discussed various administrative matters. Hanahan High's media tech program, Hawk's Eye View, received accolades for winning the Best Newscast in the Southeast from the National Academy for Screen Arts and Sciences for the second consecutive year. This award is considered a student equivalent of an Emmy, showcasing the hard work and dedication of the students and their instructor, Jerry Hines.

Subscribe for Free Stratford High's JROTC archery team also received recognition for their impressive performance, securing first place at the state championship and winning the "Best of the Best" competition against teams from multiple states. Coach Chris praised the team's commitment and thanked retiring Lieutenant Colonel Blanton for her leadership.
Additionally, fifth grader Nina Nazarov from Philip Simmons Middle School was honored as the state winner of the Governor's Art Contest on litter prevention. Her artwork, inspired by her science teacher, was recognized at the State House, marking a significant achievement for her school.
Superintendent Dixon shared further accomplishments from the district, including successful performances by middle and high school music groups at the SCMEA concert performance assessment. He also highlighted the Turnaround Achievement Awards Ceremony, which recognized 29 students for overcoming personal and academic challenges.
In terms of financial matters, the board approved several recommendations, including out-of-state travel and contracts for band uniforms and insurance brokerage services. The meeting concluded with discussions on strategic and school renewal plans, which are required to be submitted to the South Carolina Department of Education by the end of April.
