Futures Foundation honors 18 nominees for Volusia County support staff of the year

The Volusia County School Board celebrated its annual recognition of outstanding support staff during a recent meeting, highlighting the dedication and contributions of nominees from across the district. The event, held on April 22, 2025, showcased 18 nominees for the Futures Foundation Support Staff of the Year award, emphasizing the vital role these individuals play in the educational community.

Superintendent Dr. Carmen Balgobin opened the recognition segment by expressing gratitude for the hard work and commitment of the support staff, which he described as a key ingredient to the success of the school system. The Futures Foundation, which has been supporting Volusia County Schools for 40 years, presented the nominees, underscoring its long-standing impact through various programs and grants that have benefited both students and staff.

Executive Director Shameen Shepherd shared the foundation's achievements, including the distribution of over $2.4 million in classroom grants and the mentoring of more than 1,000 students. Each nominee received a certificate and a $25 gift card as a token of appreciation for their service.

The nominees were recognized by district, with representatives from each area standing to be applauded by the audience. The event concluded with a promise of surprise announcements for the winners in the coming weeks, leaving attendees eager for the results.
