Cobb County Board considers eliminating green circulator citing low ridership

Cobb County's Board of Commissioners is considering significant changes to its public transit system, specifically the potential elimination of the northern green circulator route. This decision comes after staff analysis revealed that the green circulator has approximately 37% less ridership compared to the southern blue circulator. Key destinations served by the green route overlap with other fixed routes, prompting the recommendation for its removal.

In conjunction with this proposed change, a modified and improved blue circulator is currently under evaluation to enhance the overall efficiency of the circulator network. However, before any modifications can be finalized, the county must conduct a service equity analysis, as mandated by the Federal Transit Administration. This analysis will assess any potential negative impacts of the service changes in accordance with the county's Title VI plan.

To ensure community involvement, the county is gathering public input through various channels. A public commenting period is open until May 9, with in-person meetings held on April 17 and scheduled for April 30 at the Cobb Chamber. An online meeting is also set for May 6, alongside a review by the Transit Advisory Board on April 28. The public hearing held during the meeting is part of this engagement process, allowing residents to voice their opinions on the proposed service modifications.
