Subscribe for Free Committee members anticipate that demolition work will commence in June, following a 30-day bidding period. There are plans for asbestos remediation before the demolition begins, and the committee is aware that this timeline may overlap with the pool season, which opens on June 18. To ensure public safety, any fencing erected will be positioned appropriately to allow for safe swimming during this period.
The committee also discussed the preservation of historical elements from the pool, including the removal of the Greenwood Pool sign and the safeguarding of architectural features such as the copper cupolas and bronze plaques. These items will be repurposed in the new pavilion planned for the site, which aims to honor the legacy of the Greenwood family.
In addition to the Greenwood Pool project, the committee addressed a separate demolition project at 205213 Main Street, which faced delays due to groundwater testing. The necessary permits have been obtained, and the substantial completion date for this project is set for May 2.
Overall, the meeting underscored the committee's commitment to revitalizing the Greenwood Pool site while respecting its historical significance and ensuring community safety during the transition. Further updates are expected as the projects progress.
