Greece School District prepares for new voting machines and budget vote

The Greece Central School District (GCSD) Board of Education meeting on April 22, 2025, focused on several key topics, including building improvements, upcoming voting procedures, and the budget vote timeline.

Superintendent Smalley highlighted the ongoing need for renovations in district buildings that were not included in the recent level-up project. He emphasized the importance of gathering input from administrators and staff to identify necessary improvements. The district aims to secure funding in the short to medium term to initiate a new project within the next two to three years, ensuring that facilities meet the needs of both staff and students.

In addition to building updates, the meeting addressed the upcoming budget vote scheduled for May 20. Greece has transitioned to a centralized voting location at the Transportation and Support Service Facility, with polls open from 6 AM to 9 PM. Voters must be registered with the Monroe County Board of Elections to participate. This election will also introduce new secure electronic voting machines, which will allow voters to select their choices directly on touch screens. To assist voters in adapting to this new system, the district plans to provide instructional videos and support from vote inspectors.

Superintendent Smalley also outlined the voting by mail process, stating that all registered voters are eligible to vote by mail after completing an application available on the district's website. Once verified, voters will receive an official ballot by mail or can pick one up in person at the district office.

Looking ahead, the board is set to vote on the proposed budget during the meeting. A budget book will be made available to the public on April 25, followed by a board candidates night on April 28, which will also be live-streamed. The official public hearing for the budget is scheduled for May 6, with two additional information sessions planned for May 14 and 15 to accommodate various schedules.
