Senate honors PFC Joseph Travers with moment of silence and adjournment

The Massachusetts Senate convened on April 24, 2025, to address several key matters, but the highlight of the session was a poignant tribute to Private First Class Joseph R. Travers, a Korean War veteran and former prisoner of war. Senator Dooner from the Third Bristol in Plymouth led the remembrance, honoring PFC Travers, who was recently laid to rest after being missing in action for over 70 years.

PFC Travers served with Dog Company, First Battalion, Fifth Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division, and was declared missing in April 1951. His remains were identified by the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency in June 2024 and were interred at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, Hawaii. Senator Dooner emphasized the importance of remembering those who served, stating, "It is our duty as a nation to honor our missing heroes, support their families, and ensure their sacrifices are never overlooked."

The Senate unanimously adopted a motion to adjourn in memory of PFC Travers, reinforcing the commitment to never forget those who have served. A moment of silence was observed in his honor, marking a solemn acknowledgment of his sacrifice and the ongoing mission to account for all missing service members.

In addition to the tribute, the Senate also suspended rules to expedite the consideration of a bill regarding retirement service credits for Roberta Wallin, demonstrating the body’s commitment to addressing important legislative matters alongside honoring its veterans. The session concluded with plans to reconvene the following Monday at 11:00 AM.
