The South Padre Island Convention and Visitors Advisory Board convened on April 23, 2025, to discuss recent events and upcoming activities aimed at boosting tourism and community engagement. The meeting began with Lori Morris, Senior Operations and Events Manager for Visit South Padre Island (VSPI), providing a recap of March events, highlighting the SPI Triathlon held on March 29, which attracted 131 participants. Morris noted that March was particularly busy due to spring break, with staff actively engaging with visitors on the beach.
Looking ahead, Morris announced several upcoming events, including the Shellsport Owner Tournament scheduled for Mother's Day weekend, which is expected to draw over 2,000 attendees. She also mentioned the popular "Run the Jailbreak" event, which has sold out for both days and is anticipated to attract over 5,000 participants. Additionally, the Memorial Day fireworks display is set for May 25 at 9:15 PM over the Entertainment District.

Subscribe for Free Following Morris, Kelly Carrere, Director of Sales for VSPI, reported on group sales activities, noting that the team received 21 leads in March, with a potential for 2,017 room nights. Carrere highlighted the success of the Heat Wave event, a custom truck and car show that took place in early March, which drew over 3,000 attendees. She also acknowledged the contributions of Texas Baptist University, which provided significant support during spring break.
Marisa Cervantes, the website and data specialist for VSPI, concluded the meeting with an update on the upcoming launch of the new website, scheduled for April 28.
