Boulder Arts Commission welcomes new members and discusses community programs

The Boulder Arts Commission convened on April 25, 2025, to welcome new members and discuss ongoing initiatives within the local arts community. The meeting began with introductions from new commissioners, highlighting their diverse backgrounds and experiences in the arts.

Cheryl, a long-time member of the Boulder Arts community, expressed her enthusiasm for joining the commission after a 12-year hiatus. She shared her history of running programs for young people and her pride in being part of the storytelling and stand-up scene. Cheryl emphasized her commitment to supporting the arts community and helping others navigate the challenges of securing funding and resources.

Jill Katzenberger, the executive director at Juncare Social Club, acknowledged the commission's vital role in supporting new arts venues. She credited the commission for providing initial grants that helped her organization gain traction, especially during times when larger funding sources were difficult to access. Jill expressed her gratitude and desire to assist others in similar situations.

Another new member, Yalaid, introduced themselves as a digital artist involved in the queer, experimental DIY punk scene. They expressed excitement about fostering community and innovative work through their role on the board.

Caroline Kurtz, the chair of the commission, and Jeffrey, the vice chair, also introduced themselves. Caroline, an arts and entertainment attorney, shared her extensive involvement in various arts boards and her connection to the Burning Man community. She expressed eagerness to deepen her understanding of the local arts landscape and facilitate connections within the community.

The meeting also included brief introductions from staff members, ensuring that all participants were familiar with each other's roles. The collaborative spirit and commitment to supporting Boulder’s arts community were evident throughout the discussions.
