Coppell City Council reviews updated Community Experiences Master Plan with Dunaway's guidance

Coppell City Council has taken significant steps towards enhancing community engagement and updating its Parks and Recreation Master Plan during their recent meeting on April 22, 2025. The council reviewed a comprehensive draft of the updated master plan, which aims to address the evolving needs of the community since the last update in 2017.

Project coordinator Lauren Leech highlighted the extensive community involvement that shaped the new plan, including 17 pop-up events held at local venues and a dedicated website that facilitated feedback through surveys, including a first-ever teen-specific survey. This outreach effort resulted in a wealth of input from residents, which was crucial in identifying priorities for the parks system.

Consultant Grama Moulton presented the plan's two-phase development process, emphasizing the importance of data collection and community demographics analysis. The first phase involved a thorough inventory of existing parks and facilities, while the second phase focused on synthesizing community feedback into actionable recommendations for capital projects and programming.

Key priorities identified through the community input included a demand for more fitness and wellness programs, particularly for seniors and adults. The council plans to use this feedback to guide future investments and improvements in the parks system.

The council is set to revisit the master plan for formal adoption at their May 13 meeting, where they will finalize the action plan that will serve as a roadmap for the next five to ten years. This plan will not only enhance recreational opportunities but also ensure that the parks system remains responsive to the community's needs.

In addition to the master plan discussions, the council also introduced an engagement plan for the Vision 2040 refresh, which aims to further involve residents in shaping the city's future. This initiative will include various engagement formats to reach diverse audiences, ensuring that all community voices are heard.

As Coppell moves forward, the emphasis on community engagement and strategic planning reflects a commitment to fostering a vibrant and inclusive environment for all residents. The upcoming months will be crucial as the city implements these plans and continues to seek input from its citizens.
