Pasadena ISD implements Here Comes the Bus app to enhance student safety

In a recent Pasadena Independent School District (ISD) Board of Trustees meeting, the atmosphere buzzed with appreciation and forward-thinking initiatives aimed at enhancing student safety and operational efficiency. As the sun set outside, the board members gathered to discuss critical updates, including the introduction of a new parent app designed to improve communication regarding student transportation.

Robert Saavedra, the director of operations, unveiled the "Here Comes the Bus" program, which is set to be piloted in three schools. This innovative app will allow parents to track their children's bus rides in real-time, providing information on when students board and disembark. In the event of delays due to unforeseen circumstances like accidents or flooding, the app will also send timely notifications to subscribed parents, ensuring they remain informed and connected.

Saavedra emphasized the importance of this initiative, particularly in light of safety concerns. "If we ever have to evacuate, we need to know which kids were on the bus," he stated, highlighting the app's potential to enhance emergency response protocols.

The meeting also celebrated the hard work of the district's maintenance and operations teams. Saavedra praised the dedication of his staff, noting that they manage an impressive 9 million square feet of learning space across the district. He shared that the average head custodian has over 20 years of experience, showcasing the commitment and expertise of the team responsible for maintaining the schools.

Tom Douglas, the director of maintenance, echoed this sentiment, expressing gratitude for the support from the board and the community. He highlighted the behind-the-scenes efforts of his team, which includes responding to emergencies and maintaining the cleanliness of the schools. "We are a little extra," he remarked, referring to their proactive approach in ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for students.
