Oceanside High School clubs earn numerous awards at ethics and model Congress competitions

The Oceanside Board of Education celebrated the achievements of local students during its regular meeting on April 23, 2025, highlighting the accomplishments of various clubs at Oceanside High School.

The standout moment of the evening was the recognition of the Ethics Club, which participated in the Long Island High School Ethics Bowl at Hofstra University in February. The team was awarded the Robert Ladenson Spirit of the Ethics Bowl Award, a testament to their collaborative spirit and ethical engagement. The club members—Sheheriah Ahmed, Julian Michael Avalaneda, Gabby Badolato, Julia Hershkowitz, Carter Quintero, and Dennis Yoshavaev—were commended for their deep thought and understanding, which fostered ethical awareness and critical thinking among their peers. Their advisor, Jeremy Zilbert, was also acknowledged for his guidance.

In addition to the Ethics Club, the World Interest Club showcased its talents at two Model United Nations competitions, bringing home several awards. At Harvard University, Maxwell Greenberg was recognized as the Outstanding Delegate, while Luke Lacopelli and Ryan Stromer received commendations. At Hofstra, Amelia Wolcuff earned the Best Delegate award, and other members received various accolades for their performance. Advisors Gavin Kallner and Karen Kosikoff were praised for their support of the club.

The meeting also highlighted the success of the Bridal Congress Club, which secured multiple awards at competitions in Long Beach and New Rochelle. Notable achievements included Best Speaker awards for Lucas Galvez and Ryan Kahl, along with several honorable mentions and commendations for other participants. Their advisor, Jason Manning, was recognized for his role in their success.

In closing, the Board resolved to document these accomplishments in the meeting minutes, emphasizing the importance of celebrating student achievements in the community.
