Lake Dallas High School celebrates debate and soccer team achievements

Under the bright lights of the Lake Dallas ISD boardroom, excitement filled the air as educators and students celebrated remarkable achievements in academics and athletics. The April 21, 2025, board meeting showcased the impressive accomplishments of the district's debate and academic teams, as well as the high school soccer teams, highlighting a year of hard work and dedication.

The meeting opened with a proud announcement about the debate team, which has made significant strides since its inception just three years ago. Aaron and Lance, who clinched first place at the district championship, were recognized for their outstanding performance. Their success was echoed by Ruby and Isabella, who advanced to the quarterfinals of the state tournament, marking them among the top eight teams in Texas. The board expressed pride in the entire debate team, emphasizing the collective effort that led to these prestigious achievements.

Transitioning to academics, the board celebrated the district's strong performance at the recent speech and academic tournament held at Gainesville High School. Notable mentions included Ray Bridal and Elena Clemens, who placed fifth in calculator applications and mathematics, respectively. Elena's back-to-back first-place win in spelling and vocabulary earned her a spot at the regional tournament, alongside Rebecca Skousen, who excelled in science. The mathematics and science teams also secured third place overall in the district, showcasing the district's commitment to academic excellence.

As the meeting progressed, the focus shifted to the Lake Dallas High School soccer teams, where coaches Nathan Davis and Brandon Martin shared highlights from their seasons. The boys' team finished with an impressive record of 18 wins, 5 losses, and 2 ties, demonstrating their prowess on the field. They achieved a remarkable playoff run, defeating the defending state champions in a thrilling penalty shootout before ultimately falling in the regional finals.

The girls' soccer team also had a stellar season, finishing as district champions with a flawless record of 10 wins and no losses, and notably allowing zero goals against them throughout district play. Their journey ended in the second round of the playoffs against a formidable opponent, but their achievements set a high standard for future seasons.
