Baylor Law School celebrates 16th National Adoption Day with over 400 adoptions

On April 22, 2025, Baylor Law School will host its sixteenth annual Adoption Day, a celebration that has become a cornerstone event for the local community and a significant part of National Adoption Month. This initiative, spearheaded by the Public Interest Legal Society, aims to finalize adoptions for children in foster care, providing them with the opportunity to join loving families.

Professor Fusilier, a long-time faculty member and sponsor of the Public Interest Legal Society, shared his personal journey into adoption advocacy. He recounted his initial hesitance to take on an adoption case but described how that experience profoundly impacted his life and career. Since then, he has committed to participating in Adoption Day annually, emphasizing the joy and fulfillment that comes from helping families unite.

This year, the event will take place in a specially designed courtroom at the law school, inspired by the movie "Encanto," with the theme "Family is Everything." The decorations and activities are crafted by law students, who find joy and purpose in contributing to this meaningful event. The day is filled with celebrations, including games and face painting for children, creating a festive atmosphere for families.

Judge Munkowski will preside over the adoption hearings, marking a significant moment for the 14 families participating this year. While the number of adoptions is lower than in previous years, the importance of each adoption remains paramount. The event serves as a reminder of the critical need for stable and loving homes for children in the foster care system.

The Baylor Law School community, along with local supporters, plays a vital role in making Adoption Day a success.
