Hall County opens first all-inclusive playground at Laurel Park for children of all abilities

The Hall County Board of Commissioners held a work session on April 21, 2025, where they celebrated the grand opening of the county's first all-inclusive playground at Laurel Park. This initiative reflects the county's commitment to ensuring that every child, regardless of ability or mobility, has the opportunity to play and connect with their peers.

During the meeting, officials emphasized the importance of community involvement in creating spaces that foster inclusivity. The playground features a bonded rubber surface for easy navigation by children using wheelchairs or mobility aids, as well as specialized equipment such as an anti-static metal roller slide for children with cochlear implants. Additional elements include musical components for sensory engagement and a communications board to assist nonverbal communication.

The project was a collaborative effort between Hall County Parks and Leisure and the local nonprofit organization Hope for Hall, which advocates for normalizing disability through play. The design was provided by Playground Creations of Atlanta, ensuring that the playground meets and exceeds ADA compliance standards.

Brent Holloway, the Parks Director, and his team were recognized for their leadership and dedication to creating a welcoming environment for all children. The board expressed their commitment to continuing similar projects, with plans to develop more inclusive playgrounds in the South Hall area.

Overall, the meeting underscored Hall County's strategic focus on enhancing community services and fostering cooperation among local organizations to benefit future generations. The all-inclusive playground stands as a testament to the county's values of service and community engagement.
