Grant awarded to support FAFSA application initiatives in Fayetteville schools

Cumberland County Schools is taking significant steps to support students in their pursuit of higher education through a new initiative focused on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). During a recent meeting, officials announced the launch of several FAFSA application nights, aimed at helping students navigate the financial aid process.

The initiative is backed by a $25,000 grant from the John M. Belk Foundation, awarded to the district to enhance FAFSA application efforts. This funding will facilitate the hosting of five to six FAFSA application nights, where students and their families can receive guidance and assistance in completing their applications. Specific dates for these events are currently being finalized.

In collaboration with local institutions such as Fayetteville Technical Community College and Fayetteville State University, the schools plan to provide additional resources to students. Fayetteville Tech will also deploy a bus to various high school locations throughout February, making it easier for students to access support.

To further incentivize participation, the initiative will offer scholarships ranging from $2.50 to $500, along with other prizes for students who attend the events. This effort aims not only to simplify the FAFSA process but also to encourage students to explore their post-high school options.

As these plans develop, Cumberland County Schools is committed to ensuring that all students have the necessary tools and support to pursue their educational goals. The district will continue to work closely with community partners to promote these opportunities and enhance the overall college readiness of its students.
