Drew Melching named Missouri Scholars 100 and U.S. Presidential Scholars semifinalist

Grain Valley Schools celebrated remarkable achievements during their recent School Board Meeting on April 24, 2025, highlighting the accomplishments of students who have excelled both academically and in extracurricular activities.

Drew Melching, a senior at Grain Valley High School, received the prestigious Missouri Scholars 100 award, recognizing him as one of the top academic seniors in the state. To qualify, Drew maintained a near-perfect GPA, achieved a high ACT score, completed numerous honors and AP courses, and ranked in the top 10% of his class. His selection also reflects his leadership, character, school involvement, and community service, showcasing his commitment to excellence and integrity. Additionally, Drew was named a semifinalist for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, a national honor awarded to only 161 students each year, with just 10 from Missouri and 2 from the Kansas City Metro Area.

The meeting also featured the varsity winter guard program, which has had an outstanding season. Both the junior varsity and varsity teams competed successfully, with the varsity team going undefeated in their state circuit and placing first overall at the state championships. This season marked a significant milestone as both teams participated in the Winter Guard International competition, where they showcased their skills on a national level. The varsity team finished fifth overall in their division, a commendable achievement among over 30 competing teams.

The meeting underscored the dedication and talent of Grain Valley students, with Drew Melching and the winter guard teams exemplifying the district's commitment to fostering excellence in academics and the arts. As the school year progresses, the community looks forward to more achievements from its students.
