Chief presented a compelling case for her recruitment, citing her extensive experience, community involvement, and the positive impact she has already made within the department. He argued that full-time officers not only provide better service but also offer financial benefits, as they tend to stay longer and require less training investment compared to part-time officers.
The Chief pointed out that the village has lost nine officers in the past year, costing approximately $45,000 in training expenses alone. He stressed that hiring full-time officers like Wydrow would enhance operational consistency and community trust, ultimately benefiting both the police department and the residents of East Canton.
As discussions continue, the Chief urged council members to consider the long-term advantages of expanding the police force, emphasizing that a well-staffed department is crucial for effective community policing. The council is expected to review the proposal and the accompanying documentation in the coming weeks.
