LSU system approves new academic programs and facility upgrades across multiple campuses

The LSU Board of Supervisors made significant strides in enhancing educational offerings during their meeting on April 25, 2025, approving several new programs and initiatives aimed at meeting workforce demands and fostering academic growth.

One of the most notable decisions was the establishment of a Bachelor of Arts in Design Studies at LSU. This program is designed to address the growing need for interdisciplinary training in design and the built environment. By connecting existing fields of architecture, interior design, and landscape architecture, the program will provide students with a studio-intensive curriculum that prepares them for professional licensure. The anticipated revenue from the program is expected to exceed its costs, ensuring its sustainability.

Additionally, the board approved a Master of Science in Architecture program at LSU A&M. This two-year, research-based degree will culminate in a graduate thesis and offer four focus areas: sustainable coastal architecture, innovative construction technology, spatial justice, and modernity studies. This program aims to bridge undergraduate and graduate studies, enhancing competitiveness in academic and research markets.

LSU Eunice also received approval for four new certificate programs: Payroll Administration, Business Entrepreneurship, Basic Management, and Paraprofessional Education. These online and hybrid programs are designed to equip students with essential skills for various career paths, allowing for stackable credentials that can contribute to further academic pursuits.

In a move to bolster research and support for humanities scholars, the board approved the establishment of the HSS Humanities Center at LSU A&M. This center will focus on fostering human-centered learning and providing resources for researchers at all career stages, supported by a philanthropic gift for a pilot program aimed at enhancing student communication skills.

The meeting also included a revision of LSU Shreveport's mission statement to better reflect its commitment to student development and success, aligning with accreditation requirements.
