Greer Committee recommends $131K for local events including Christmas Parade and Rugby Tournament

The Greer City Council meeting on April 22, 2025, focused on funding recommendations for various community events and organizations. The committee proposed several allocations aimed at enhancing local cultural and recreational activities.

Key recommendations included a $20,000 grant for the Greer Parks, Recreation, and Tourism to support the Xmas Sevens Rugby Tournament. Additionally, the committee suggested $8,000 for the Greer Relief and Resources Agency. However, no funding was recommended for the Greer Christmas Parade.

Other notable allocations included $50,000 for the Foothills Philharmonic's concert season and $9,465 for the Greer Farmers Market. The Greer Heritage Museum was recommended to receive $10,995 for its gallery expansion, while the Day of the Dead celebration and Freedom Blast events were allocated $10,650 and $18,757.50, respectively. The International Festival was also supported with a recommendation of $3,375.

In terms of advertising, the Greer Chamber of Commerce was recommended to receive $49,637.21, while various tourism guides and promotional materials received smaller allocations, including $11,000 for the Discover Advertisement Vacation Guide and $2,250 for the Greer Cultural Arts Council's season play advertisement.

The total amount available for grants was reported at $156,741, with the committee recommending $131,242.50 in funding. The council opened the floor for discussion and questions following the presentation of these recommendations.
