Mountain View Corridor project approved for widening to five lanes in Lehi

In the heart of Saratoga Springs, city officials gathered to discuss a significant infrastructure project that promises to reshape local traffic patterns and enhance safety for residents. During the City Council meeting on April 22, 2025, Mark provided an update on the Mountain View Corridor widening project, a crucial initiative aimed at alleviating congestion and improving access in the area.

The Mountain View Corridor, previously known as Foothill, stretches from Pony Express north past Murray Way to Pioneer Crossing. Currently a three-lane road, the project will expand it to five lanes, featuring two lanes in each direction and a center turn lane. This upgrade is particularly vital as it serves five schools in the vicinity, ensuring safer walking routes for children and reducing delays for pedestrians.

Mark revealed that bids for the project were opened earlier that day, with the lowest bid coming in at approximately $3 million from Landmark Excavation, a reputable contractor with prior experience on city projects. This figure is significantly lower than the initial estimate of $5 to $6 million, leaving the city with nearly $3 million in excess funds. This surplus could potentially allow for the completion of three additional unfunded segments of the road, depending on future funding applications.

The council discussed the importance of this project not only for immediate traffic relief but also for its long-term vision of widening Pony to five lanes throughout the city. While the bridge associated with the project is funded for 2028, the segments on either side remain unfunded, highlighting the need for continued advocacy and funding efforts.

As the meeting concluded, the council expressed optimism about moving forward with the project, confident that the awarded contract could be executed without further approvals, thanks to prior budget allocations and state funding. This development marks a significant step toward enhancing the infrastructure of Saratoga Springs, promising a smoother and safer journey for its residents.
