VA program expands home care services for veterans in Del Rio with new facility plans

The meeting began with a presentation from a representative of the Department of Veterans Affairs, who discussed the need for a dedicated facility in Del Rio to better serve the growing population of medically complex veterans. Currently, the program operates without adequate infrastructure, relying on staff from San Antonio to travel to Del Rio. The representative emphasized the importance of establishing a fixed facility to enhance service delivery, including telehealth capabilities. The court approved a revocable license for the use of the old Cardwell Building, allowing the VA to move forward with their plans.

Following this, the court discussed a proposal from AEP to host an open house regarding a new transmission line in Val Verde County. The court agreed to allow AEP to use community facilities for this purpose, emphasizing the public benefit of informing residents about the project. The timeline for the open house was adjusted to accommodate ongoing planning.

The meeting also covered updates on various infrastructure projects, including a sidewalk project and the development of a sports complex. Officials noted that funding for these projects is expected to be available in the coming years, with ongoing efforts to secure additional federal funding.

In addition, the court welcomed a new county agent from Nebraska and discussed the issuance of a county credit card for her travel expenses. The court also addressed upcoming travel-related expenses and confirmed the opening hours of the local Social Security office, which will now operate Monday through Friday.

The meeting concluded with discussions on cybersecurity committee appointments and the approval of contracts for various county projects, including concrete work and fitness equipment for local parks.
