School Board approves LRS recycling contract citing service issues with current provider

The Belvidere CUSD 100 Board of Education held a regular meeting on April 21, 2025, where several key topics were discussed, including student achievements, committee reports, and a significant decision regarding waste management services.

During the meeting, representatives from Wider High School highlighted the school's progress in the fourth quarter, noting that students are on track to exceed their academic goals. Celebrations included recognition of Advanced Placement Language students who performed well in an ethics competition at Northern Illinois University, as well as the Future Farmers of America (FFA) team, which secured second place in a statewide dairy judging contest. The school also marked Autism Awareness Day with a bracelet giveaway and celebrated various staff appreciation days.

He emphasized the importance of guaranteed pricing in the new contract with LRS, which he argued would provide better financial predictability for the district. The board ultimately approved the RFP for LRS, aiming to reduce ancillary charges and improve service quality.
