Joe and Troy promote city recycling efforts for Earth Day

On a bright afternoon in Nixa, Missouri, the local recycling center buzzed with activity as residents took part in Earth Day celebrations. Amid the flurry of cardboard boxes and plastic containers, Joe, a dedicated staff member, shared insights about the importance of recycling and the services available to the community.

“Recycling is a great thing for the environment,” Joe remarked, emphasizing the center's role in providing a sustainable option for disposing of recyclables. He noted that many people are unaware of the actual recycling process, often believing that their items end up in landfills. “That’s not correct. It does all get recycled,” he assured, highlighting the center's commitment to environmental stewardship.

To utilize the recycling services, residents must be citizens of Nixa and pay a city wastewater bill. Joe explained the guidelines for recycling, such as breaking down cardboard boxes and rinsing out plastics before bringing them in. He also mentioned the specific requirements for yard waste, stating that tree limbs must be under six feet long and no thicker than a softball.

The center operates Monday through Saturday, from 8 AM to 4:15 PM, providing ample opportunity for residents to engage in eco-friendly practices. Joe encouraged community members to reach out with questions, noting that while staff may be busy, they are always available to assist.
