Lakeville Area School Board honors students and announces upcoming events

The Lakeville Area School Board convened on April 22, 2025, to celebrate student achievements and discuss important initiatives impacting the district. The meeting commenced with the Pledge of Allegiance and a roll call, confirming the presence of board members, including one participating remotely.

A highlight of the evening was the recognition of the April Students of the Month: Kohn Johnson from Oak Hills Elementary, Naomi Wandwasen from Lakeview Elementary, and Edith Long from Century Middle School. Additionally, the board honored the Staff of the Month, naming Evan Pearson, a science teacher at Lakeville North High School, and Lisa Thirke, a kindergarten teacher at Eastview Elementary.

The meeting also featured a mini-documentary showcasing the career readiness programs in Lakeville schools, focusing on students Ava and Josh as they navigate their paths toward careers in trades and college. This initiative aims to provide students with insights into their future opportunities.

In a show of appreciation, the board announced Student Nutrition Appreciation Week, scheduled for April 28 through May 2, to honor the dedicated nutrition staff who ensure students receive healthy meals.

The board celebrated the accomplishments of two Century Middle School students, Adelaide and Sydney Mlodzik, who qualified for Team USA in martial arts and will compete in the World Martial Arts Games in England. Furthermore, high school juniors Annika Swenson and Alice Yee received national recognition at the 2025 Scholastic Art Awards, earning gold and silver medals, respectively.

The Lakeville Winter Guard teams also received accolades for their performances at the North Star Circuit Finals, with both teams capturing championship titles.

The meeting concluded with a presentation by Lakeville South High School chemistry teacher Jason Just and his students, who highlighted the opportunities within the chemistry program, including the annual science show.

This meeting underscored the Lakeville Area School District's commitment to celebrating student and staff achievements while fostering an environment that prepares students for future success.
