Coeur d'Alene Council approves $66.3M fire station upgrades and stormwater project

The City of Coeur d'Alene City Council convened on February 18, 2025, to discuss several key agenda items, including significant upgrades to fire facilities, professional services for water management, and a stormwater project.

The meeting began with a discussion on proposed upgrades to the fire department facilities, estimated to cost approximately $66.3 million. Council members expressed concerns regarding the current state of Station 2, with some advocating for a complete replacement rather than a remodel. Next, Kyle, the water department director, presented a proposal for a professional services agreement with JUB Engineers. This agreement aims to facilitate on-call plan review services, particularly for assessing water supply capabilities for new projects. The council unanimously approved the resolution to engage JUB Engineers for these services.

Following this, Chris Bosley from the engineering department introduced a stormwater management project funded through a grant from the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality. The Third Street outfall project aims to improve stormwater management by constructing a traditional swale to capture runoff before it reaches the lake. The project received nine bids, with Sonre Enterprises LLC selected for the work. The council approved the contract, allowing the project to commence in March.
