The Everett Public Schools Board meeting on April 22, 2025, focused on a significant recommendation for the adoption of a new elementary music curriculum. The presentation was led by Anne Arnold, the P5 director, and Tammy Kaufman, the P12 fine arts facilitator, who outlined the extensive process undertaken by the adoption committee.
The primary goal of this curriculum adoption is to enhance equitable access to music education resources, thereby supporting student learning and promoting wellness, engagement, and safety. The committee emphasized the alignment of the new curriculum with the district's strategic priorities, which aim to prepare students for success in college and careers while reducing achievement gaps among diverse student groups.

The committee, which included 13 music teachers and various stakeholders, evaluated multiple curriculum options based on established criteria, including alignment with Washington State music standards, accessibility, and bias content.
After thorough evaluation and field testing, the committee unanimously recommended Quaver Music as the new curriculum. Quaver Music is praised for its high quality, engaging content, and integration of social-emotional lessons. It offers a variety of interactive lessons and activities that have received positive feedback from both teachers and students during the testing phase.
The board is expected to move forward with this recommendation for a second reading in May, marking a significant step towards modernizing music education in Everett Public Schools. The implementation plan will include professional learning and support for staff to ensure a smooth transition to the new curriculum.
