Southtel Neighborhood Council advocates budget priorities at WestLA meeting

The Los Angeles City Budget Hearings held on April 28, 2025, featured a significant presentation by budget advocates representing various neighborhood councils. The meeting, co-chaired by Jay Handle, aimed to discuss budget priorities and community engagement in local governance.

During the session, Glen Bailey, another co-chair, outlined the role of budget advocates, who have been active in the city for many years. They emphasized their commitment to monitoring city services and ensuring accountability to local neighborhoods. The advocates presented a list of nine priorities that reflect the needs and concerns of the community, developed through collaboration with neighborhood councils and local stakeholders.

The advocates highlighted their volunteer efforts, which include working closely with 99 neighborhood councils and engaging with approximately 500 interested parties. Their goal is to amplify the voices of residents and ensure that budget decisions align with community needs.

The meeting concluded with an invitation for further questions and engagement through the website budgetAVeckets.org, encouraging community members to participate in the budget process. This session underscored the importance of local involvement in shaping the city’s financial priorities and services.
