South County Pride Board plans June events and flag raising at Town Hall

The South Kingstown Town Council has officially approved the flying of the LGBTQ+ pride flag outside Town Hall for one week, from June 7 to June 14, 2025. This decision aligns with the annual South County Pride event, which has been celebrated every June since its inception in 2021, originally starting as a social distance car parade during the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the April 28 meeting, representatives from the South County Pride Board highlighted the significance of the event, which includes a yearly scholarship awarded to high school students in the LGBTQ+ and ally communities. The council's approval to display the pride flag is a continuation of last year's initiative, where the flag was flown for a week, fostering inclusivity and support for the local LGBTQ+ community.

The motion to fly the flag was met with unanimous support from council members, emphasizing the town's commitment to celebrating diversity and promoting a welcoming environment for all residents. The pride event is set to take place in Downtown Wakefield, and community members are encouraged to participate in the festivities.
