Event planners finalize Independence Day celebration at local mall with fireworks

Oviedo residents can look forward to an exciting Independence Day celebration this year, as city officials confirmed plans for a vibrant event at the Oviedo Mall. During the recent council work session, it was announced that the city has secured three out of four necessary parcel approvals for the fireworks display, with the final approval expected imminently. This marks a significant step forward in the planning process for the July 4 festivities.

The city has allocated approximately $54,000 for the event, which will take place inside the mall, featuring a stage in the food court area, live music, and various vendors. Organizers are keen to avoid competition with existing mall businesses, ensuring that vendors complement rather than compete with local stores. The event will also include family-friendly activities, such as face painting and entertainment for children.

This year’s fireworks will be launched from the familiar Dillard's firing zone, with attendees invited to gather outside to enjoy the display. The event is designed to create a festive atmosphere while supporting local businesses, as many stores will participate by offering arts and crafts sessions leading up to the celebration.

Looking ahead, city officials are already planning for next year’s Independence Day, which coincides with the 250th anniversary of the United States. The council is committed to making this a memorable occasion, with discussions underway to enhance the event further.

In addition to the Independence Day plans, the council also discussed the water grant program, which will be revisited in future sessions for further feedback and direction.
