Washington City kicks off Cotton Days celebration with theme Patriots and Pioneers

Washington City, Utah, is set to celebrate the unveiling of a new statue of George Washington on April 29, 2025, coinciding with the kickoff of the annual Cotton Days festival. This year’s theme, "Patriots and Pioneers," aims to honor the American spirit while intertwining local Dixie history with broader American heritage.

Mayor Chris Staley, alongside city council members and dignitaries from neighboring cities, gathered to mark this significant occasion. The event will feature an invocation by St. George City Mayor Michelle Bridal, a color-raising ceremony by the Marine Corps, and a performance of the national anthem by local residents Emily, Alex, and Zachary Brown.

The statue, crafted by artist Gerry Anderson, symbolizes the values of freedom and patriotism that the community cherishes. The gathering will also include remarks from Attorney General Derek Brown, who traveled from Salt Lake City to participate in the festivities.
