Mayor Staley celebrates George Washington Plaza opening and honors Lamar Miller

Washington City is set to celebrate a significant milestone with the unveiling of the George Washington statue at the newly established George Washington Plaza on April 29, 2025. This event marks a collaborative effort between Washington County, the city of St. George, and Washington City, showcasing a rapid and effective partnership that has brought this project to fruition in just a few months.

Mayor Chris Staley, a lifelong resident of Washington City, expressed gratitude for the contributions of local builders and designers, specifically highlighting JS Costanza and LandTrends for their exceptional work on the plaza. The unveiling coincides with the celebration of America's 250th birthday and the kickoff of Cotton Days, a local festival that honors the community's pioneer heritage.

The event will also honor Lamar Miller, a 93-year-old lifelong resident and dedicated community member, who will serve as the Grand Marshal for Cotton Days 2025. Miller's extensive contributions to the city, including his service on the Washington City Council and his role in the Washington City Lions Club, reflect a deep commitment to community service. His inspiring life story, marked by resilience and dedication, will be celebrated during the festivities.
