Collierville residents are advocating for a solution to manage traffic flow and ensure emergency vehicle access in their neighborhoods. During the Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting on April 28, 2025, community members expressed concerns about the potential opening of Peyton Parkway into the Water Tower District, fearing it could significantly increase traffic in their quiet neighborhood.
Homeowners Association President Dave Ryan presented a petition highlighting these concerns, noting that current traffic levels average only about 10 cars per hour. Residents worry that opening the road could lead to an influx of vehicles, disrupting the peaceful environment they currently enjoy. To address the city's need for emergency access while maintaining low traffic volumes, Ryan proposed the installation of a collapsible or retractable bollard system. This system would allow emergency vehicles to pass while preventing regular traffic, thereby protecting the neighborhood from heavy congestion.

The proposal aims to balance the need for development with the preservation of neighborhood integrity.
Vice President of the Homeowners Association, Gustavo Kornitz, echoed these sentiments, acknowledging the importance of responsible growth that respects existing communities. He expressed appreciation for the board's recent decisions regarding zoning, which he believes contribute positively to the town's development.
The discussions at the meeting reflect a proactive approach by Collierville residents to engage with local government on issues that directly impact their quality of life. As the town continues to grow, the collaboration between residents and officials will be crucial in ensuring that development aligns with community values and needs.
