Conestoga High School updates schedule and mandates financial literacy course

Conestoga High School is set to implement significant changes to its academic schedule and graduation requirements following discussions at the Tredyffrin-Easttown School Board meeting on April 28, 2025. The board approved a new schedule aimed at reducing student stress and enhancing well-being, transitioning from an eight-period day to a five-day rotation. This new structure will feature three days with eight periods and two days with four longer periods, complemented by a "lunch and learn" opportunity for students.

The decision comes after a survey conducted in March 2025, which revealed overwhelming support from students, staff, and parents for the new schedule. The lunch and learn component is particularly popular, allowing students to engage with peers, attend clubs, and receive one-on-one support from teachers. The schedule committee will continue to monitor the implementation and address any challenges that arise.

In addition to the schedule changes, the board discussed new state requirements for personal financial literacy education. Starting in the 2026-2027 school year, all students will be required to complete a half-credit course in financial literacy as part of their graduation requirements. This will involve adjustments to the existing core elective credits, ensuring that the overall credit requirements remain unchanged. Currently, 68% of Conestoga students take personal finance, and the new mandate may necessitate hiring additional staff to accommodate the increased enrollment in the course.

These changes reflect the district's commitment to adapting educational practices to better serve the needs of its students and prepare them for future challenges. The board plans to revise graduation regulations and modify the program of studies in the fall of 2025 before presenting them for full board approval.
