The Marin Art and Garden Center (MAGIC) is set to undergo a significant transformation, as discussed during the recent Advisory Design Review Group meeting held on December 17, 2024. The proposed renovations aim to enhance accessibility, aesthetics, and functionality at the center, which is a vital community resource in Ross, Marin County.
The project includes a comprehensive redesign of the Livermore Pavilion, the addition of new signage, and the replacement of existing structures. Key features of the plan involve a 27-square-foot expansion of the pavilion, new windows, roofing, and improved outdoor spaces, including a celebration platform that will be reduced in size but rebuilt with modern materials. Notably, the project will also introduce 3,000 square feet of pervious pavement in the parking area, significantly reducing impervious surfaces by over 16,000 square feet.
Iris Wax, the executive director of MAGIC, emphasized the importance of this project for both the center and the community, highlighting that it is entirely funded by donations. The renovations aim to create a welcoming entry point, improve accessibility, and enhance the overall visitor experience. The design includes a new master sign program and various types of fencing to maintain an open yet secure environment.
Architect Jessica Fairchild and landscape architect Kathy Garrett presented detailed plans, which include relocating the rose garden to a sunnier area, improving pathways, and enhancing lighting throughout the site. The project also aims to restore historical elements, creating a more inviting atmosphere reminiscent of the center's past.
The Advisory Design Review Group is expected to provide a formal recommendation to the town council, paving the way for the project to move forward. This initiative not only promises to revitalize the Marin Art and Garden Center but also reinforces its role as a cherished community hub.
