Farmington High School celebrates winter sports achievements at annual awards night

Farmington Public Schools celebrated its winter sports achievements during the FPS Board of Education Regular Meeting on April 8, 2025, highlighting the dedication and success of student-athletes across various sports. The event, attended by families and community members, showcased the accomplishments of high school athletes, coaches, and the support systems that contribute to their success.

Allison Robinson, the Director of School Safety and Athletics, opened the recognition ceremony by expressing gratitude to parents and coaches for their unwavering support. She emphasized the hard work required to balance academics and athletics, acknowledging the challenges faced by student-athletes.

The meeting featured several coaches who shared highlights from their seasons. Byron Johnson, head coach of the boys' basketball team, proudly announced that his team achieved a district championship and recorded the most wins in over 15 years. He recognized standout players, including Anthony Bailey, who excelled both on the court and in the classroom.

Girls' basketball coach Natalie Yarber reported a remarkable turnaround for her team, which went from a challenging previous season to becoming league champions. She praised her players for their resilience and academic achievements, with a team GPA of 3.7.

In swimming, coach Drew Hans celebrated a strong season, noting that his team finished fourth in the state meet, with several athletes earning All-State honors. Wrestling coach Ben Jozweak highlighted the character and accomplishments of his athletes, including league champions and state qualifiers.

The gymnastics team, consistently a top contender in the state, was recognized for their impressive performances, including individual state champions. The meeting concluded with a brief mention of the hockey team's growth and determination, despite facing challenges throughout the season.
