Sheboygan City Council approves MOU for 2025 and 2026 Midwest Challenge powerboat races

The City of Sheboygan has officially approved a two-year memorandum of understanding with Power Boat P1 USA LLC, paving the way for the Midwest Challenge offshore powerboat racing events in 2025 and 2026. This agreement, passed unanimously during the recent Finance and Personnel meeting, outlines the responsibilities of both the city and P1 Motorsports for the upcoming races.

City officials emphasized the importance of this partnership, with Alder Perella noting that P1 is already committed to returning for the 2026 event. This commitment is seen as a significant opportunity for the city, as it allows for better budgeting and planning for future events. Alder Lefebvre raised concerns about the potential for extending the agreement beyond 2026, but city representatives indicated that while P1 has not committed further, they are optimistic about future collaborations.

The resolution aims to clarify the roles and responsibilities of both parties, ensuring a smooth execution of the events. Alder Decker inquired about any significant changes from past races, to which officials confirmed that the new agreement simply formalizes existing arrangements to avoid confusion on event day.

With the motion to approve the resolution passing without opposition, Sheboygan is set to host thrilling offshore powerboat races, enhancing the city’s profile as a destination for major sporting events.
