The Las Cruces Council Work Session on April 28, 2025, featured a variety of discussions, with a notable focus on community engagement through pet adoption initiatives and a review of the upcoming fiscal year budget.
Carol Nelson, a digital content specialist from the Bridal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley, presented the "Pets of the Week" segment. She announced that both the dog and cat of the week had been successfully adopted, highlighting the positive impact of local rescue efforts. The dog of the week, Brooke, has been enrolled in a prison training program to prepare her for adoption, while the cat of the week also found a new home. Nelson encouraged the community to consider adopting long-term residents at the center, noting a special promotion where adoption fees are waived for spayed and neutered animals in honor of National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day on April 30. She mentioned several long-term pets available for adoption, including Dora, Alice, Tony, and Whisper, and invited the public to visit them at upcoming events at PetSmart and Petco.
