Scottsdale allocates $430,000 for Monterra improvements at Westworld complex

Scottsdale's Tourism Development Commission has approved a significant funding allocation aimed at enhancing the Monterra facility at WestWorld, a key venue for events in the city. During the meeting on April 15, 2025, the commission agreed to allocate $430,000 from savings from the Scottsdale Sports Complex project to support the Monterra improvements, which will be complemented by an additional $400,000 from the Bureau of Reclamation, bringing the total project budget to $830,000.

Will Loftall, the general manager of WestWorld, presented the proposal, emphasizing the need for renovations to the 12,000-square-foot Monterra facility, which has been in operation since the early 1990s. The city recently took over management of the facility and is committed to revitalizing it to better serve the community and enhance its event offerings.

The planned renovations will occur in two phases. The first phase will focus on interior upgrades, including improvements to the banquet hall, bar area, and restrooms, as well as essential structural enhancements like roof and air conditioning repairs. The second phase will address outdoor areas, including the west patio and parking facilities.

Once completed, the Monterra facility is expected to host around 50 events annually, generating approximately $250,000 in revenue from rentals and food and beverage sales. Loftall highlighted the facility's versatility, targeting a range of events from corporate meetings to weddings, and noted its scenic location, which adds to its appeal.

The renovations aim to create a modern, flexible space that allows guests to personalize their events, featuring new design elements such as floor-to-ceiling doors and upgraded lighting. The commission's decision marks a proactive step towards enhancing Scottsdale's tourism infrastructure, ensuring that the city remains a competitive destination for events and gatherings.
