The San Bernardino City Council has announced a series of significant infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing community facilities and improving local transportation. During a recent meeting, officials outlined plans for renovations and new developments that are set to benefit residents over the next few years.

One of the most anticipated projects is the major renovation of the local theater, which will close on June 2 and is expected to reopen by September 30. This four-month renovation aims to provide a refreshed space for community events and entertainment, with completion targeted for fall 2025.

In addition to the theater, the city is moving forward with an animal shelter renovation, with bids opening next week for 12 modular buildings. This project is also slated for completion in fall 2025. Other ongoing projects include the rehabilitation of Roosevelt Ball Park, which is in the design phase and expected to finish by winter 2026, and improvements to Nicholson Park, which began construction about a month ago and is anticipated to be completed by summer 2025.

The council highlighted the importance of establishing San Bernardino as a regional destination for sports, with several projects aimed at enhancing local parks and athletic facilities. The Spiker Park East Side Skate Park has already been completed ahead of schedule, and improvements to Nicholson Park will include lighting for multipurpose fields.

Infrastructure maintenance was a key focus, with plans to address flooding issues and improve existing roadways. The city is preparing to present a staff report to the council next month to continue work on a project aimed at eliminating flooding, with completion expected in fall 2025. Additionally, a street rehabilitation plan is underway, with a proposed budget of $20 million to address pavement issues across 50 locations.

Transportation improvements are also on the horizon, including the Diamond Diversion Interchange project on State Highway 215, which aims to enhance traffic flow and accessibility around Cal State San Bernardino. This project is expected to be completed by fall 2025.

The council also discussed the Mount Vernon Bridge replacement project, which is nearing completion, with a celebration planned for August 23. This project has been in the works since 2019 and represents a significant investment in the city’s infrastructure.
