Charleston County enhances road safety through advanced pavement management strategies

During a recent meeting, Charleston County Public Works highlighted the importance of its pavement management system, which plays a crucial role in maintaining the county's extensive road network. Engineering Manager Mackenzie Kelly detailed how the system collects, analyzes, and organizes data from approximately 1,900 miles of roads, including paved county, municipal, and state secondary public roads.

The county employs automated collection vehicles to gather data on various pavement distresses, which helps in developing an overall condition index for the roads.
