Best Friends Dog Club seeks climate-controlled space in Sun City

The Sun City RCSC Board of Directors held a special session on March 18, 2025, to address several pressing issues affecting the community's recreational facilities and clubs. The meeting began with a focus on the safety and usability of local amenities, particularly highlighting the closure of the spa and the prolonged shutdown of the pickleball and mini-golf facilities. Concerns were raised regarding the lack of lighting on the tennis courts, which have not been resurfaced, rendering them unusable.

Following the discussion on facilities, the meeting shifted to the topic of community engagement through pet ownership. A representative from the Best Friends Dog Club emphasized the importance of dogs as companions and their positive impact on residents' well-being. The club has been advocating for a climate-controlled space to conduct training classes and events, as their activities are significantly hindered by the extreme weather conditions in the area, forcing them to shut down from May to October each year.

The representative noted that despite these challenges, the club experienced a surge in membership, with around 100 new members joining during the summer of 2024, thanks to temporary accommodations at Mountain View. The need for dedicated space for dog-related activities was reiterated, highlighting the broader issue of how weather impacts various clubs in the community.

The meeting concluded with a commitment to further explore solutions for the facility issues and the request for a dedicated space for the dog club, ensuring that community needs are met moving forward. The board plans to follow up on these discussions in future sessions, aiming to enhance the recreational offerings for Sun City residents.
