Perryton ISD celebrates student achievements in academics athletics and arts

The Perryton Independent School District (PISD) Board of Trustees convened on April 28, 2025, to celebrate student achievements and address community inquiries. The meeting highlighted a range of accomplishments from various student groups and individuals, showcasing the district's commitment to excellence in education and extracurricular activities.

The session began with a detailed overview of student accomplishments. Lindsey Valenzuela was recognized for receiving the prestigious TONA scholarship from Texas Tech University, which covers four years of tuition, meals, fees, and books, along with opportunities for study abroad. This scholarship is aimed at supporting rural and first-generation college students who have demonstrated academic excellence and leadership.

The board also celebrated the success of the Winter Guard, which secured first place in their classification at a recent competition in Sweetwater. In athletics, several students qualified for regional track events, with Jacob Erickson breaking the school record in the 3,200 meters. Erickson's performance, particularly as a freshman, drew commendation from board members for its impressive nature.

In powerlifting, the PISD teams achieved notable results at the national level, with the girls' team finishing third and the boys' team fifth. Individual accolades included national championships for Crystal Anaya, Caden Juarez, and Javier Martinez, with Martinez lifting the second-highest total across all weight classes.

The meeting also highlighted achievements in music, with the PHS band receiving a sweepstakes award for the first time in 19 years, reflecting their hard work and dedication. Choir performances were similarly recognized, with various groups earning high ratings in competitions.

In addition to celebrating these accomplishments, the board addressed questions raised during recent community forums. The administration took the opportunity to provide clarity and information on several topics of interest to parents and community members.
