Clifford Smart Middle School honors coaches Alex and Ron for sports dedication

During the WLCSD Board of Education meeting on May 1, 2025, significant recognition was given to individuals who have made notable contributions to the Clifford H. Smart Middle School community. The meeting highlighted the achievements of coaches Alex and Ron, who were nominated for their exceptional dedication to middle school sports. Their commitment has fostered a thriving athletic environment, with a remarkable number of student athletes participating in cross country, basketball, and track and field.

Parent Christy Blewett praised Alex and Ron for their heartfelt efforts in creating a positive sports experience for students. Their coaching has not only led to impressive team performances—such as the girls' cross country team achieving success at league, regional, and county levels—but has also cultivated strong relationships with athletes and their families. This connection is crucial, especially in competitive settings where emotions can run high. The coaches are recognized for their ability to engage with students, helping them navigate their feelings and promoting sportsmanship that reflects positively on the school district.

In addition to the athletic accolades, the meeting also celebrated the recipients of the Kindness Matters Awards. Principal Niall Maktari introduced four individuals who exemplify kindness and service within the community. The award winners included Diane Tyrell and Alice Johnson, secretaries at Keith Elementary, and Harper Van Dockler, a kindergartner from Oakley Park Elementary. These individuals were honored for their consistent efforts to uplift others and inspire kindness in their surroundings.
