The Gates Chili School District held its fifth annual budget presentation, "A Bit of Budget with Dr. Ball," on May 3, 2025. Assistant Superintendent for Business, Dr. Mitch Ball, led the discussion from a newly established technology classroom, emphasizing the importance of building a strong budget to support student success.
Dr. Ball outlined the key components of the district's budget, starting with transportation, which is essential for safely transporting thousands of students daily. He highlighted that many services, such as special education, are legally mandated, while others, including music, athletics, and advanced placement classes, are vital for preparing students for future challenges.

Their contributions not only support educational goals but also bolster the local economy, generating over $6 million in sales and income tax revenue.
This year's budget reflects a commitment to efficiency, with over $200,000 in savings achieved through administrative restructuring aimed at enhancing services and resource alignment. The district also manages extensive facilities, including over 820,000 square feet of buildings and 230 acres of land, which serve both educational and community purposes.
Dr. Ball announced two ongoing capital projects, approved by voters, aimed at improving school facilities for the future. The proposed budget for the upcoming school year totals $139,776,252, with every dollar allocated to enhance student learning and community value.
The next installment of the budget series will focus on revenue sources and the financial mechanisms that support the district's operations.
