North Andover approves Kittredge Elementary plans as MSBA meeting approaches

The North Andover School Committee recently provided updates on significant developments regarding local school construction projects, particularly focusing on the Kittredge Elementary School and North Andover Middle School.

During the meeting, it was confirmed that the Kittredge Elementary project is progressing well, with the preferred schematic report officially submitted to the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA). This report outlines the plans for the new building, which has been a priority for the committee after MSBA recommended it as the most viable option among three candidates. The committee is now awaiting a meeting with MSBA, scheduled for either May 14 or May 21, where they will address any questions regarding the project. A decision from MSBA is anticipated in June, which is a crucial step in moving forward.

In addition to Kittredge, updates were provided on the North Andover Middle School, where the committee is currently addressing punch list items. A final meeting will be held once these items are completed, marking the conclusion of this phase of the project.

The committee also discussed the financial implications of the Kittredge project, noting that a debt exclusion will be necessary to fund the town's share of the construction costs. The town will need to approve this debt exclusion at the 2026 town meeting, requiring a two-thirds vote. The MSBA is expected to cover approximately 40-45% of the costs, while the town will need to fund the remaining portion.
