Christopher Kidd proposes new animal hospital at Crabapple Village Shopping Center

The proposed facility aims to provide a range of services, including preventative care, wellness checks, and full-service surgeries, without offering long-term boarding for pets. The primary veterinarian, Dr. Forester Gholston, is noted for his expertise in orthopedic surgeries, particularly ACL repairs. The hospital's operating hours are set from Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., which aims to accommodate pet owners' needs while ensuring a manageable schedule for staff.

The commission's discussion highlighted the importance of community input, as the applicant reported notifying nearby property owners about the proposal. Concerns raised included the maintenance of a proposed pet relief area and the absence of overnight boarding services. In response, the applicant assured that the relief area would be well-maintained and designed to meet community standards.

The staff recommended approval of the conditional use with seven specific conditions, including limitations on boarding and requirements for noise attenuation measures. The commission expressed support for the proposal, noting that it would complement existing veterinary services in the area, with the nearest animal hospital located in Roswell.

This development is seen as a positive addition to Alpharetta, providing residents with more options for pet care and enhancing the community's overall character.
